  • Petrus Bosa Layarda

    Research Intern, 2013

    At the time of his internship, Petrus was a rising junior at New York University Abu Dhabi, majoring in economics with a concentration in finance. His main interest lies in behavioral economics and corporate finance. Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, he was among the top 10 highest scorers on the secondary school national examinations in his city. Petrus went on to pursue his IB Diploma while attending SJI International in Singapore after being awarded a merit scholarship.

  • Ibrahim Adefila

    Information Technology Intern, 2012

    Ibrahim joined the Al Qasimi Foundation for a five-week internship after graduating from Middlesex University Dubai with a double major in information technology and business information systems. Originally from Osun State in Nigeria, he also holds a degree in applied accounting (Oxford Brookes University) and an advance diploma in software engineering (Aptech Worldwide). 

    Beyond his formal studies, Ibrahim has participated in various software competitions, including the Gulf Programming Contest, and he won 1st place in the 2012 UAE National Software Development Trade Show. Ibrahim is especially interested in enterprise application development and digital forensics.

  • Arshiah Parween

    Research Intern, 2012

    Arshiah joined the Foundation as a Research Intern. Originally from India and brought up in Kuwait, she holds a BA with honors in economics from Aligarh Muslim University, India. She also holds a master’s degree in globalization and labor from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India. Arshiah has been awarded an outstanding grade for her master's dissertation due to her original and productive contribution to her chosen research topic.

    Arshiah sought an internship with the Foundation as it was a unique opportunity for her to get involved with a government entity located in the Middle East whose primary focus is on education. Arshiah’s internship project focused on organizing and filing existing survey feedback from teacher development courses delivered by the Foundation. In addition, she compiled the data into feedback reports and created a template for reporting survey feedback.

  • Ilya Bozhenkov

    Ilya Bozhenkov

    Research Intern, 2012

    Ilya has attended New York University Abu Dhabi, majoring in economics with a concentration in finance. He is particularly interested in international finance and business. Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, he graduated from Gymnasium 74, St. Petersburg with a Gold Medal for Academic Achievement and a Presidential Award for winning the all-national English Language Olympiad. Ilya was also a Future Leaders Exchange scholar through the U.S. Department of State, where he spent an academic year studying at an American high school in Michigan.

    Ilya spent his internship primarily working on the Al Qasimi Foundation’s study regarding the effectiveness of English language teachers in Ras Al Khaimah public schools. The study seeks to explore the relationship between students’ performance in English language courses and instructors’ level of English language mastery, academic background, and teaching experience.

  • Carmen Toth-Pickl

    Research Intern, 2012

    In January 2012 Carmen, an Austrian national, commenced a four month joint research internship with the Al Qasimi Foundation and the American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK). Carmen is currently a master's candidate at the European Peace University in Stadtschlaining, Austria and also holds a bachelor’s degree (with distinction) in political science from the University of Vienna, Austria. Prior to her internship, she was able to gain extensive work experience through working with unaccompanied minor refugees at Diakonie Austria, teaching at a German language school, and mentoring political researchers.
