Najmaat, a music quartet and the first group of its kind in the Arab world, was in concert at Ras Al Khiamah's Chamber of Commerce on November 18, in an event organized by the Al Qasimi Foundation and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai. The members of the quartet are all female musicians, hailing from Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, and the United States.

The group was founded in 2011 by Sherine Tohamy, a professor of the oud, which comes from the Arabic word meaning "wood." Tohamy was the first female director of this magical instrument in Egypt. The other musicians of Najmaat are also outstanding performers and include Corinne Strokes (violin), Hana Boukhris (qanoun), and Mounia Hajji (percussion). Concert-goers unanimously praised the quartet's performance and outstanding musical abilities.
