    Simon Pepper

    Research Intern, 2016

    A native of the UK, Simon joins the Al Qasimi Foundation as a research intern, having previously worked as a mentor with the National Citizen Service and qualified as a teacher of English as a foreign language at Royal Holloway, University of London. Now in the final year of his undergraduate degree in English literature and French at the University of St. Andrews, Simon’s studies have encompassed a variety of modules in literature, cultural identity, and translation. He has also spent time studying at the Sorbonne in Paris and more recently, completed the Columbia Publishing Course at Oxford University.

    Max Jundt

    Capacity Development Intern, 2016

    Max Jundt is working as a Capacity Development Intern at the Al Qasimi Foundation. He is an incoming freshman at the University of California, Berkeley, and plans on majoring in economics. He has worked as an assistant teacher for both El Sistema and Parents in Community Action. These opportunities allowed him the chance to develop his interests in education and cross-cultural communication. Through his internship, Max hopes to engage in student enrichment and gain experience in education development.

    Lauren Clingan

    Research Intern, 2016

    Lauren Clingan joins the Al Qasimi Foundation as a Research Intern. A rising senior at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), Lauren studies Social Research and Public Policy. Her academic and research interests center on qualitative research methods, human and labor rights, socioeconomic inequality, and gender. At NYUAD, Lauren serves as managing editor of the Journal of Social Sciences, president of the Society for Global Development, and chairperson of Body Voices 2016—the university’s second student-led academic conference, which focuses on the place of dance in education and community-building. In her position at the Al Qasimi Foundation, Lauren looks forward to gaining practical experience in policy research and a more nuanced understanding of development and gender-related policy in the UAE.

    Moonie Sohn

    Community Engagement & Outreach Intern, 2016

    Myung-In "Moonie" Sohn is a rising senior at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), where she is majoring in Arab Crossroads Studies and minoring in Arabic language. Her academic and research interests include the classical Arabic linguistic tradition and Arabic language. She has worked as a research assistant to the Database of K-12 Arabic Regional Textbooks at NYUAD. Passionate about sustainability, she directed Sila Connection, the first inter-university conference in Abu Dhabi aimed at empowering university students and producing student-led sustainable projects for Abu Dhabi. Through her work at the Al Qasimi Foundation, Moonie hopes to foster community engagement through research and engage with a wide range of stakeholders in Ras Al Khaimah through policy work.

    Guillaume Sylvain

    Community Engagement and Outreach Intern, 2016

    Guillaume joins the Al Qasimi Foundation this summer as a Community Engagement and Outreach Intern. He is currently a student at NYU Abu Dhabi and majors in Arab Crossroad Studies with a minor in Arabic and political science. With a strong interest in U.A.E. national history, heritage, and society, he has been learning the local dialect and recently acted as teaching assistant for Emirati Arabic courses at NYU Abu Dhabi. He has experience working with non-profit and government offices in the UAE and is currently involved in coediting a book about Emirati proverbs. Through his capacity as an intern, Guillaume will be working on Ras Al Khaimah heritage and community projects.
