Ras Al Khaimah in Switzerland

The Ras Al Khaimah/Switzerland Teacher Exchange Program was the first exchange program to be run by the Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation. Educators in Ras Al Khaimah government schools had the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills of pedagogy and learning environments through a teacher exchange program with schools in Basel, Switzerland.

The project was run in collaboration with Pädagogisches Zentrum Basel-Stadt (PZ.BS), an institute for teacher development in Basel. The institute has shared its knowledge and experience of the impact of diversity and integration, class environments, educational success and equal opportunities in public schools.

The first phase of the program took place in November 2011 when 11 educators from Ras Al Khaimah travelled to Basel to visit schools, engage in professional and educational dialogue, discussions and learning circles and to share best practice in teaching and learning with Swiss educationalists. The participants had opportunities to learn about the culture, the education system in Basel and the growing multi-cultural nature of Basel schools. They also considered the teacher training programs available and the range of teaching and learning styles used.

Each of the participants from Ras Al Khaimah undertook a project to research a specific area of educational interest. The short films linked below are the culmination of their research findings:
