Majlis Series

One of the Al Qasimi Foundation’s primary roles is to serve as a bridge between scholars and decision makers in order to promote evidence-based policies that benefit the people and development of Ras Al Khaimah. To further this goal, the Foundation launched its Majlis Series in 2013. Traditionally places in which people gather to visit, share news, and discuss matters important to daily life, majalis remain prominent in present-day Emirati society. This series builds on the majlis tradition and seeks to establish more direct communication channels with policymakers and increase the potential impact of relevant research findings.

Most Majlis events are focused on issues related to one of the Foundation’s three priority areas: education, community development, or health and well-being. To retain the informal conversation of a traditional majlis setting, featured scholars briefly present key findings before exchanging questions and ideas with policymakers and community participants on the implications and potential impacts of their research. The open format encourages relationships among individuals and organizations with similar interests while providing the Foundation with new ideas for where to potentially focus in-house or visiting scholar research in the future.

Vision & Goals:

The Majlis Series represents a strategic forum designed to promote the incorporation of quality research that has significance for Ras Al Khaimah into the work of local policymakers.

Specifically, the Majlis Series is designed to:

  • Create opportunities for researchers and policymakers to come together to share their respective knowledge and skillsets in an open and collaborative setting
  • Foster mutual respect and two-way dialogue between research and policymaking communities in the context of specific policy issues affecting Ras Al Khaimah
  • Increase the knowledge base and other relevant resources available to decision makers in order to promote evidence-based policies that benefit the people and development of Ras Al Khaimah
  • Build mutually beneficial, long-term relationships among researchers and policymakers
